Gus the Groundhog Has Got to Go!

I said it with Hip Hop the Sixers Mascot and I’ll say it again with Gus the Groundhog – he’s gotta go! Gus the Groundhog, the second most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania, the mascot for the Pennsylvania Lottery, and an irritating creature, is beyond creepy. Couldn’t they have made Gus a cute lovable creature, like the groundhog in Caddyshack? Instead they made him look like a rodent! Granted, groundhogs are rodents, but I don’t need to be reminded of this while relaxing at home watching TV!
I think I’ve said enough.

The average life span of a ground hog is 5 years – Gus is so close to dying naturally, and you sadistically start a campaign to euthanize the creature, He smells, but so do french people. Gus left his den of darkness, went against the grain to get his SAG card, become an actor, and support his gambling habit – he deserves the chance to go out on his terms. In ground hog day – Bill Murray took him over the ledge – literally. Most people found that funny, but me – I saw the fear in Gus’s little beady eyes – the emotionn and projection made me whimper my way to sleep that night. You see a creepy furry little sub human creature, I am one generation from people who ate his kind for dinner – I feel the guilt that only a repressor can feel. Free Gus from the persecution of your priveleged white Generation Y emotional detachment from nature – can’t we all just get along?

Replying to Gus has got to go.
Oh you are so right. Gus is very creepy. I too wanted a cute little fuzzball, but Gus is scary. Somebody didn’t spend enough time on the development of this idea. If they are going to stick with the Groundhog thing, maybe the son or daughter of Gus needs to be his replacement. And this time make the character have some warmth.

Leave Gus alone!…..I LOVE Gus!….He should actually be the #1 groundhog!!! He’s adorable….animated….and very giving! (Not everyone can be beautiful & he is not creepy!) I wish they sold “Gus” in a stuffed animal form. I wish they sold hard copies of his calendar too….I would love to be in a calendar with my friend Gus!! I love his advertisements and I particularly love when Gus says, “I’m a good digger!” in the Gold Rush Gus commercial. And Gus is such a loving and giving little goundhog….always trying to help ordinary people get rich! He’s perfect for the job….I have a lot of friends who like him too, so leave him alone!
