A Way to Recycle Plastic #5 in Philadelphia
I’m not a Green expert but I know a few things about the difficulties of recycling certain types of plastics. I just stumbled upon the Weavers Way website (which is really cool in itself, but I’ll write about that later…) and they are offering a recycle program for plastic #5.
According to their website:
Weavers Way’s Environment Committee has started a monthly collection for #5 plastics, which are not included in the City’s recycling program. This category includes yogurt cups, sour cream containers, hummus tubs, some medicine bottles, and more. It is difficult now to find a reliable way to recycle #5 plastics in this region, and the new project aims to fill the void.
Collection days for #5 plastics will be on the third Saturday of the month at 610 Carpenter Lane, next door to the WW pet store. The project will be conducted on a pilot basis for three months, ending June 20, after which the Environment Committee will determine whether or not to continue.
So, collect your plastic and mark your calendars for May 16th and check out the Weavers Way website in the meantime. http://www.weaversway.coop/
