Time to Clean: Second Annual Philly Spring Cleanup April 4th

On March 10th, Mayor Nutter announced that Philadelphia will be holding their second Spring Cleanup on April 4th.  Sign up for the event today before your desired location fills up.  I think this is an amazing idea and am so please with the mayor’s decision to turn this amazing idea into a yearly tradition. Check out these stats about last year’s Clean Up:

The 2008 Philly Spring Cleanup was a huge success, recognized by Keep America Beautiful as the largest single day, citywide clean-up on record in the United States:

  • 15,000 volunteers cleaned over 3,500 blocks
  • 2.5 million pounds of trash were collected
  • 71 commercial corridors were cleaned
  • 28 Rec Centers and 27 Fairmount Park sites were cleaned

This year, I think we can crush the 15,000 volunteers with well over 20,000 people.
