The Cupcake War: Termini Brothers
After residing in New York for three years, I found myself entrenched in the Cupcake War that persistently raged. Every bakery battled it out for the best, fluffiest, and creamiest cupcake. Magnolia Bakery, by far the most popular with its location in the West Village, celebrity sightings, and Sex and the City stint was just a lot of hype; overrated and not worth the wait. Magnolia made their cash from the “scene.” However, other bakeries had some damn good cupcakes: Billy’s, Crumbs, Amy’s to name a few.
Well, now that I am a full time Philadelphian, I am out to find the cupcake champion of Philly. Today, I hit up Termini Brothers located in the Reading Terminal Market. At $1 per cupcake, they have already smashed Magnolia in price. (Magnolia has the nerve to charge $2.50 per cupcake!) The Termini frosting is minimal and sugary with jimmies covering the top, a plus for me because I am a less frosting/more cake kind of girl. The cake is big, too! Probably 25% larger than a Magnolia cake and just as soft and moist as Magnolia, if not more.
All in all, Termini is a winner in my book and could beat Magnolia in a taste test any day of the week.
